Are You Ready For Online Counseling?

  1. Do you have a laptop, desktop PC or Mac, phone, or tablet which is 3 years old or newer?
Older devices may be used, but may struggle to run the program properly. If you are using a smart phone, you will be prompted to download the SimplePractice Teletherapy app prior to your session.

  2. Is your space equipped with a modern internet connection that is reliable?
Connecting directly to your router using an Ethernet cable for wired internet is recommended though wireless networks can work fine as well. If you are using a portable device, do you have a good wireless connection or cellular signal?

  3. Do you have access to a working webcam?
Most modern laptops and portable devices have built in webcams which will work great for online counseling! If you have a desktop PC or Mac you may need to purchase and set up an external webcam.

  4. Are you comfortable navigating computer software?
Teletherapy is easy to navigate and does not require any training to use. However, those who find computers to be confusing or frustrating in general may not be a good fit for online counseling.

  5. Do you have availability to a quiet and confidential space?
If you are not able to have a quiet and confidential space then online counseling may not be a great fit. If you choose to do your therapy session near others you will need to understand that confidentiality is not possible. If you do not have a space that is void of most distractions, it can make therapy very difficult.
